Canning Town and Custom House Area 3 is a sustainable urban plan for Countryside Properties and William Sutton. The project comprises 610 mixed tenure units, including approximately 20% affordable homes, and a new two form entry primary school.

The urban plan is intended to create a sustainable mixed community integrated into the surrounding neighbourhood. It also seeks to maximise the amount of family housing within the context of higher density development that takes advantage of new public transport connections. The scheme will replace the three existing tower blocks and a number of four storey walk-up blocks and re-establish a more traditional street layout.

The Greater London Authority’s Architecture and Urbanism Unit stated “…the Countryside (Maccreanor Lavington) proposal remains the strongest, being a realistic design response which ties in well with adjoining areas, delivers an excellent mix of unit types, has a good configuration of public and private spaces which relate well to entrances and the presence of people in the buildings (windows and balconies), dovetails well with the school options, and is, in a quiet way, a really exciting bit of architecture.”
