Primary School Expansion
Program:
Client: LB Southwark
Phase: start design

As part of Southwark’s programme to increase primary school places in the borough, Maccreanor Lavington has been commissioned to expand Grange Primary School from 1.5 forms of entry to 2 forms of entry.

The project provides a complete masterplan for the school. Targeted works to the existing building provides enhanced teaching flexibility, and structural alterations are kept to a minimum to limit disruption.

A new build element spans the entire new street front, enhancing community presence and housing a new hall and kitchen, a nursery, an administration hub and a house for the on-site premises manager.

The nursery will be co-located with reception classrooms to create an Early Years and Foundation Stage Hub, with a dedicated playground provided in place of a former car park.

The administration building contains offices that require regular access by parents, carers and outside agencies. The library is re-housed in this wing with a dual function as a family room to support work with children’s families and carers.
The hall delivers enhanced dining facilities and space for whole school assemblies. Located opposite existing public green space, the hall benefits from views out to mature trees and easy access for out of hours and community use.
