Camberwell social housing project wins planning approval

25.10.2022

A new council housing development, weaved into the existing fabric of Camberwell’s Champion Hill Estate, has been granted planning permission.

The proposed 24 social rent homes development, Seavington House,  lies just outside the Camberwell Grove Conservation Area for Southwark Council, who have plans to build over 11,00 new council homes in the borough.

The existing site comprises ten bedsits, as well as sixteen underused garages. The new proposal will consist of a three storey block with five terraced homes and four storey apartment building with nineteen flats. Residents who were previously living in the bedsit accommodation have been rehoused and have the option to return to Seavington House once the new development has been built.

We carried out a number of reviews with the local community and key stakeholders at Southwark Council, working with the borough to understand the housing need in the area and to help reflect this with the new homes provided on the site.
