City Edge, Dublin

A holistic extension to Dublin’s city centre playing a vital role for the city and Ireland going forward.

City Edge is one of Europe’s largest regeneration projects. A Strategic Framework for a 700ha site in west Dublin, covering three regeneration areas that straddle South Dublin County Council and Dublin City Council lands. It  establishes a series of neighbourhoods of distinct characters, identifying potential employment sectors, alongside housing typologies at an effective density and diversity that will cater for the long-term housing needs of the population.

A City in a City

We are leading a multidisciplinary team to develop the current City Edge Study Area that provides a diverse mix of industrial, commercial and employment uses all of which will be sustained and nurtured whilst making way for an exciting mixed-use urban quarter.

City Edge aims to enhance the existing city whilst delivering equitable growth and bringing innovative solutions to the site, to champion future-proofing approaches that ensure the long-term success of the area. A series of new neighbourhoods of distinct characters, identifying potential employment sectors, alongside housing typologies at an effective density and diversity that will cater for the long-term housing needs of the population.

15 Minute Neighbourhood

Liveability is at the heart of the Framework which extends beyond housing, ensuring active travel and public transport are key in supporting health and wellbeing and also accessibility; that employment is available locally and that businesses can grow and thrive in their new environment.

A liveable city where resources and community infrastructure and playspace is available on the doorstep – within the 15- minute neighbourhood.

Regenerative and Sustaining Environs

One golden thread running through all aspects of the project is sustainability. We have set out thematic systemic interventions that will provide multiple benefits. For example, the re-naturalisation of rivers will enhance biodiversity, mitigate flood risk, reduce the urban heat island effect, provide amenable recreational spaces, provide safe desirable walking and cycle routes, and attract businesses which will provide opportunities and services for the local population.
